School of Sharia
"A source of Guidance, and a rise of Knowledge"

An overview of the Department of Foundations of Religion:
The School of Sharia joined the University of Jordan in 1970/1971 AD, where it awarded a bachelor's degree in Sharia (general), and the emergence of the Department of Foundations of Religion was independent of its counterpart, the Department of Jurisprudence and Sharia, in 1977 AD. This department consists of various sections, between which there is no real limit, and the student chooses his subjects and courses from all of these sections, perhaps the most important of which are: - The section of recitation and memorization, which is concerned with teaching the rules of proper recitation and the basics of correct reading in the narration of Hafs from Asim bin Abi Najud Kufi, through courses divided into levels appropriate to students' abilities, as it aims to teach our children reading free of melody and error and also aims to memorize them parts of the Holy Quran through each of the levels they study. There is also the Quran and its sciences section, which is concerned with teaching students the sciences of the Quran and tafsir and its types: It also introduces them to the different approaches and trends of exegetes, and teaches them language, methods of statement, miracles, verses of judgment, and others in order to qualify them to study the verses of the Holy Quran and refute the doubts raised about it and its sciences. Then there is the section of Hadith and its sciences, which is concerned with teaching the sciences of Hadith and the commentaries of Sunnah books, and introduces students to the science of terminology and its classifications, and also introduces them to the methodologies of the Hadith scholars, the principles of judging Hadith and the rules of impugning and accrediting Hadith transmitters, so that they have the ability to criticize and analyze Hadith narratives and analyze them properly based on disciplined methodological rules. The section of Theology, which studies the fundamentals of creed, the doctrine of names, attributes, prophecies and resurrection, teaches students the issues of sects and religions, their origins and related matters. It shows students the approaches of scholars in dealing with Islamic doctrines within a conciliatory vision that unites and does not divide, and leaves its students free to choose the appropriate approach to understanding the fundamentals of the doctrines within objective controls. There are courses that teach the students of this department the biography of the beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) and the biography of the Rightly Guided Caliphs after him, and also teach them the basics of Islamic call (Da'wa) and public speaking within a theoretical and practical program, in order to integrate the student's personality so that he can be a successful advocate in his practical life. The Islamic Culture course, which is offered at the beginning of each semester as part of the university requirements for non-students of this department, is attended by thousands of students from various colleges to learn about the sources and characteristics of Islamic culture, as well as the forms of intellectual invasion and ways to preserve the identity of the nation and its civilizational distinctiveness despite its recognition of other civilizations and its coexistence with them. The department also opens its doors to postgraduate students, as the department grants master's and doctoral degrees in the Qur'an, Tafsir and their sciences, as well as in Hadith and its sciences, and also grants a master's degree in Islamic theology, in addition to a professional diploma in Qur'anic readings in cooperation with the Islamic Cultural Center. This department has been blessed with well-versed scholars, some of whom have passed away and some of them are still providing and exerting, we count among these scholars: Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Zaid Al-Kilani, Prof. Dr. Fadl Hassan Abbas, Prof. Dr. Farid Al-Salman, Dr. Hail Al-Faouri, Dr. Abdullah Azzam, Prof. Dr. Bassam Al-Amoush, Dr. Hamam Saeed, Dr. Mahmoud Obeidat, Dr. Muhammad Oweidah and Dr. Hamza Al-Malibari.
